Dolj Bar Association – Press release regarding the meeting of Eastern Bars Commission of the European Bars Federation
On Friday, the 5th of May 2017, Dolj Bar Association organised the meeting of the Eastern Bars Commission of the European Bars Federation. The meeting took place at the Faculty of Law, Craiova and was attended by representatives of bar associations from Albania, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, the Republic of Moldova, Poland and Romania.
Professor Sevastian Cercel, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Craiova opened the meeting and was followed by Mrs Stanca Gidro, President of the Eastern Bars Commission and by Mr Christoph Munz, Vice-President, who outlined activities undertaken by the European Bars Federation, the benefits of the members of the Federation, as well as the role, importance and projects of the Eastern Bars Commission.
During his speech, Mr Lucian Bernd Săuleanu, Dean of Dolj Bar Association, thanked the participants for their effort to come to Craiova and underlined the importance of international cooperation for the development of the legal profession.
Further debates tackled problems shared by lawyers in Eastern European bar associations and joint action proposals through the European Bars Federation. All participants who took the floor agreed upon the fact that, regardless of country and bar association, lawyers share similar problems which can be solved through the maintenance of functional relations, solidarity and joint action.
The meeting was the result of the good international cooperation relations that Dolj Bar Association has with the European Bars Federation, on the one hand, and with Eastern and Southern European bar associations, non-members of the Federation, on the other hand. At the meeting also participated other representatives of bar associations from Chișinău, Dresden, Luxembourg, Nis, Tirana, Warsaw, Vidin, Thessaloniki and Zajecar. Romanian attendees were deans of Argeș, Mehedinți, Olt, Vâlcea and Dolj bar associations.
